Status Update - Bi-Monthly release unlocked!

A special greeting to all of my fans and contributors on Patreon! Allow me to say that you all have made bi-monthly releases a possibility and I am deeply moved by your show of support. At the first of next month I'll be ready to quit one of my part-time jobs and work on Overwhored instead. Just keep in mind the total has to stay above $400 a month or I'll have to go back to my other job.

This month hasn't been too productive, but for good reason. I'm still working and thanks to the generosity of an anonymous fan, I have a new computer! It's a fantastic one, I've never owned anything this nice. It took me some time to find the time to put it together and get everything I needed installed.

This means I can record my own footage for the commercial I was putting together. Though not this week, sadly. Tomorrow I have a root canal scheduled - something that'll let me return to something approaching sanity. I haven't had any real time to play video games or goof off.

That said I'm not just looking at Overwhored. I'm looking at projects to work on after this game is done. In spite of being Version 0.5, there are only two real heroine chapters left, maybe three total releases. The rest will just be polish and rewrites. The game WILL be done within this year. If I hit the $800 milestone it could be finished in just a few months!

So what happens after Overwhored? Well, that's been something I've been thinking about quite a bit. I always had two sequels planned. Overwhored: Fall From Heaven, which will be an expansion to the current game, and Overwhored II featuring the Overmind's first daughter as a protagonist.

If there's one thing I've learned during the course of my development, however, it's that there's quite a few other people out there working on things. I'm learning who is reliable, who delivers quality, who delivers on time.

For the immediate future it means there'll be another game getting developed. A visual novel style game focused on the exploration of a brainwashed office complex. This will be a joint project between myself and NoMoshing of Badkitty Games - but just as importantly, it'll be a joint venture of our teams.

This is going to be an experiment as much as anything. It won't halt production of other stuff, and it'll be short and simple. But if it succeeds? Well - you could end up looking at the birth of a studio. One of the first real adult game development studios in the west. Love or hate Harem Collector and Overwhored it's clear that combining our talents will let us do bigger, better stuff than we could alone.

This sort of thing is only possible because of the support you've been showing our projects. That said I'm not interested in leaping in fully without testing the waters first. Whether or not we can make the western Sengoku Rance someday depends on our infrastructure and support. How can we distribute, how can we draw up contracts, how can we cover legal concerns, etc. But the more support we get the more we can actually look at these things and work towards the day when we can construct a real studio.

As a final, unrelated note I'd like to give a special thanks to my girlfriend for being so supportive and kind. You're the best part of my life, and I love you deeply.

EDIT:
Sometime after I drafted this I got an e-mail requesting I talk about another game developer.

They make adult games as well, and they do have a Patreon! I have to say that the sprite work is exceptionally polished. They're wanting support, so take a look for yourself and see what they've got. If you like it please do support them.

  1. Are you going to stick to RPG Maker games or do you have plans to expand to other engines?

    1. It depends. I'd prefer to make games you can run in the browser so they'll work on any platform, but not flash games. There are means to make browser based visual novels, for instance, allowing them to work on any computer.

RPG Maker only runs on Windows and I hate cutting out Linux and Mac users.

    2. Hi, congratulations for reaching your funding goals, you can be proud !

About other engines, what about Python/Renpy ? It works with any platform (that I know of) and is really pleasant to use as a player. You probably know of Ashford Academy from the Henthighschool forum.

    3. Unity is a pretty good engine too, though it has a fairly steep learning curb as you have to learn some basic C#.

Their in box 2D support is really good and is going to get better. They recently updated the UI tools, which makes making menus a lot easier then trying to construct from code

The free version has a lot of functionality, and last I checked you're allowed to gross up to $100,000 before they demand you buy a license.

    1. I know this one.
You have to kill 3 supporters, where, by the sounds of it, you only kill one. You've got the Weapon Shop Owner, but there is also the Rainbow Spiders Seller, and the Old Guy with a slave.

If you don't kill all three, then you get that weird part where she doesn't say anything at all

  4. when you say bimonthly do you mean twice a month or once every other month?

    1. I was wondering this, too, since Americans usually think bimonthly is once-every-two and Brits usually think it is twice-monthly. I am guessing Cypress is wanting to commit to six releases a year, but I could be wrong...

    2. I wasn't aware that bi-monthly was considered twice a month in England, honestly. The release will be once every other month.

  5. Western adult game studio? Yooou may want to consider getting in touch with Lupiesoft, your goals there align somewhat.
